China Mobile Hong Kong Launches Greater Bay Area Service Plan
Seamless hassle-free mobile service transcends city boundaries to enhance interconnectivity in Southern China’s strategic region

(Hong Kong, 6th December 2017) Witnessed by President Xi Jinping, the signing of the “Framework Agreement on Deepening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation in the Development of the Bay Area” on 1st July 2017 by HKSAR Chief Executive Mrs. Carrie Lam and representatives from the National Development and Reform Commission along with Guangdong and Macao leaders, has defined the strategic areas on which the Greater Bay Area cities shall collaborate, including infrastructural interconnectivity, enhanced market integration and developing the region into an international innovation and technology hub.

 

To support interconnectivity of the Greater Bay Area, China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) today announced the launch of the Greater Bay Area Service Plan* in collaboration with China Mobile Group Guangdong Co., Ltd and Macao’s telecom service provider CTM. The launch event, officiated by Mr. Edward Yau Tang-wah, GBS, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, marks the beginning of a new era of seamless and hassle-free cross-border telecommunications, fostered by CMHK, China Mobile Group Guangdong Co., Ltd and CTM to show full support for China’s vital strategic development initiative.

 

Dr. Li Feng, Chairman of CMHK, said, “The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is significant in that it works in parallel with the ‘Belt and Road’ strategy to power ahead China’s far-reaching open-door strategy. Close cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will be vital to enable free information flow. Hong Kong, as the most cosmopolitan of the 11 cities in the Greater Bay Area, plays a critical role in connecting mainland with the world. The Greater Bay Area is a strategic initiative for China and has been enshrined in the “13th Five-Year Plan” and the “Belt and Road Vision and Action” national plans.
